Big Hollywood

The amazing Andrew Breitbart has created a new blog: Big Hollywood. Check it out.

The best description I can find is this quote from Breitbart: "If conservatives don't figure out popular culture soon, the movement will die a deserving death."

From Rush Limbaugh's daily email newsletter: "Andrew Breitbart has launched Big Hollywood, a blog aimed at getting conservatives out of the closet in Hollywood and breaking the liberal monopoly on popular culture."

I'm very excited about this because it's something I've been saying for years...as a matter of fact, once up a time when my head was buried in acting classes and a film major, my single goal in life was to try to come up with a way to bring more uhhhhh conservative-ish type things to our pop culture (particularly TV/Film), but my dream died a slow, horrible death at some point in the past few years when I decided I should find a sensible career.

Anyway, lots of great people are hanging out over there, so check it out...

What I can't understand is this. Why is it that people will blindly worship those who live in the world of make believe and think they have a grasp on reality?

I remember, especially under the Clinton Administration, and it will probably be just as bad under Obama's, actors and actresses testifying before Congress for their "expertise" on certain subjects because of a character they played in a movie.

One such person was Meryl Streep who testified how it felt to be a person about who was about to lose the family farm.

WTF? After shooting a scene, she went back to her trailer or what ever to prepare for the next scene.

Did she go to bed that night actually worrying about losing her farm? Hell, no. So how in hell would she know?

Then there was The Oparh who testified what it was like to be a slave before a committe on race relations, because she played the part of a slave in a movie. How in hell would she know. She knew that after the shooting was over, she would return to her billions, her mansions, and her tv show.

That makes about as much sense as asking Johnny Depp to give a detailed lecture on pirate life, because he played one in the movies.

I played the role of a lawyer in a school play one time. Does that qualify me to practice law? Under the premises I've described above, "You don't pay unless we win."

As for the pop culture, the insanity goes on and on.

I think you're more qualified than Caroline Kennedy :-)

Pirates....that was funny.
You're right. It's strange how some Americans worship stars. But you make it sound like this only happens under Democratic administrations, which is not true.
There are some celebrities who do know what they are talking about through their own experiences, and I see nothing wrong with them testifying before Congress.
I have respect for celebrities with real knowledge and experience and who are doing actual work to help, rather than the ones who just stick their name on a cause to look good. Michael J. Fox testifying on Parkinsons makes sense; Oprah pretending she was a slave does not.
An interesting aside here: Often celebrities who do charitable events are paid to do so.
