Quote Song of the Day 6/24/08 - Tom Waits

This is one of my favorite songs ever.

update 6/25/08 7:33 AM - Taking patriotism to a whole new level

Note to self: do not look up Thomas Jefferson quotes and watch HBO's "Real Sex" at 4:00 AM and then sleep for a couple of hours. (I can't say more, family reads this.)

More awesomeness (Rain Dogs):

Quote of the Day 6/23/08 Sarah Palin for VP

"He's the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by." - Karl Rove on Obama (Great minds think alike - and by "great minds" I mean myself and Karl Rove. Go back through the archives, too lazy to link.)

In other "news"...

1. VPs I Can Get Behind. I am 100% for a female VP for Johnny Mac. I am 99% for a Sarah Palin VP for Johnny Mac. She's young, she's likable, she's fresh and "new," etc. She's conservative enough to snag conservative votes without being annoyingly so. Sorry KBH.

2. Im not sure this is news but lots of people looking up Sarah Palin, so check out Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld weekdays at 3:00 AM EST! HILARIOUS!

3. Did anyone catch Mr. Mark "three homers" Teixeira yesterday? (Don't answer that, I swear no one likes baseball anymore.)

4. Honorary QOTD: Some people see things that are and ask, 'Why?' Some people dream of things that never were and ask, 'Why not?' Some people have to go to work and don't have time for all that ...” - George Carlin

5. Next time I say, "I don't think I'll pick Kyle Busch this week, I'll try Kasey Kahne"...I must be slapped. KB is reminding me of a young Dale Earnhardt Sr. (Yeah, I made that up but even I saw that craaaazy track yesterday and thought no 22 year old is going to win this!)

6. And finally, there's something to be learned here: Man sheds 80 pounds eating McDonald's. Like "guns don't kill people," only with food. McDonalds don't kill people...? Maybe I'm stretching this.

Quote of the Day 6/22/08 - Being tan is overrated

"I can't take a well-tanned person seriously." - Cleveland Amory

Quote of the Day 6/11/08 - I need a vacation...

"Good sex is like good bridge. If you don't have a good partner, you'd better have a good hand." - Mae West

So, my AC died last night. My landlord doesn't return my calls. It's 810,542 degrees outside. You do the math. I tried to sleep in the living room as I have a nice fan in here, but I woke up drenched in sweat and with a crick in my neck.

Anywho, I spent the next few hours in the sauna that is my bedroom, trying to figure out why modern technology hates me so much (the laptop, the cellphone, the AC), and finally decided, screw it, I'm going to spend today at the pool doing this (see picture above). Which is what I plan to do now. I may even stay there until tomorrow.

I really regret not going to Florida w/ family this week.

update 12:06 AM: Laps swam: 100 (I know, it's obnoxious) ...and for the record, yes, I did crop my legs and feet out of that picture if you are wondering what happened to it...the GC appealed to my paranoia with some story about people with weird foot fetishes stealing my pictures and well, I'm not sure you still get the desired effect of "relaxing at the pool."

Now I'm going to go try to decide if I like Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Quote of the Day 6/10/08 - VP

"The man with the best job in the country is the vice-president. All he has to do is get up every morning and say, 'How is the president?'" - Will Rogers

So, who wants to play fantasy Vice President? I've never really cared much about the VP but with our crap nominees, why not, right?

1. Obama - If he's smart, someone with lots of military experience. My bets are on Jim Webb at the moment...

2. McCain - If he's smart, someone young and maybe from a blue state. Honestly, I don't know. If I hear the name "Mitt Romney" one more time I may have yet another thing that makes me cry. Of course I've mentioned being a big Kay Bailey Hutchison fan and the more I see of this Bobby Jindal guy, the more I like him but I wouldn't put any money down on either of them, particulary KBH.

Anyway, all together now, Maureen Dowd makes me die a little inside: Mincing Up Michelle

And since I no longer have to pretend to like Hillary, check out Peggy Noonan: SHE STILL THINKS IT'S ABOUT HER and Recoil Election

Quote of the Day 6/8/08 - Smoltzie

"I can't compete against my body anymore." - John Smoltz

Well, the short-lived "hey look, if you squint one eye and turn your head to the left a little, it's almost like 1995 all over again" Braves season is over. Terence Moore has a great little piece about it in the AJC: Smoltz still valuable to Braves. I swear, reading that almost made me cry...ALMOST.

In other exciting news, this is how I spent most of the afternoon. I am now this color and in pain. I also swam 120 laps.

Though no one's going to care, I would like to add that I should not have picked Kyle Busch today. I knew I shouldn't have, I even made a big deal about how I shouldn't be picking him as I was picking him but against my judgment, I did it anyway.

Quote of the Day 6/4/08 Oh, Hillary!

"Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit." - Vince Lombardi

Quite frankly, Hill, I'm disappointed. I wanted to watch you make a fool of yourself and divide your party. You failed me. Now all I have to look forward to is Obama carrying on about "more George Bush" with a free pass from the media and McCain kicking his ass.

And now I'm going to take a cold shower. I'd like to say it's because I'm all hot and bothered, but the truth is, it's like 90 something degrees today - or it was - and my AC doesn't seem to work right.
